This is a motion control time lapse dolly rig. It's designed to move my camera along a track at an extremely slow rate (anywhere from 1 foot per hour to 10 feet per hour). This allows me to take interval shots on my camera, then put them together in a time lapse video. Since the rig goes so slow, when you create the time lapse, it gives an impression that the video is panning at real time, while everything else moves extremely fast. I took it to work yesterday to try it out. Here's the first ever video using my rig. The content isn't much (just me working/goofing off at work), but it's the motion that I was going for.
