
Here's a sight you don't see very often. Did you know that before they built the Lake Lynn (Cheat Lake) Dam in 1926, there were 3 islands in the Cheat River? Once the water backed up to create Cheat Lake (officially named Lake Lynn), they disappeared. These Islands are under about 6 to 10 feet of water at all times in the summer and the majority of the time in the winter. Every now and then in the winter they lower the lake level in preparation of a big storm event and you can see these islands. This is a picture of the first one you would come to in the River.
